Accommodation
- Pitlochry
Youth Hostel
- This is quite a nice youth hostel. The dorms have en suite bathrooms and there is a very hot fire in the common room. It generally felt nice with a good kitchen and dining area. It was warm in the evening but alas full winter gear was needed in the morning as the skinflints decide not to switch heaters on ready for morning. The drying room was noted by other friends to be tiny.

Introduction
Pitlochry is the principle town in this section and right on the edge of the south east highlands. The area covered is pretty large and includes some quite remote hills like those fringeing the Tarf valley along with some very popular hills including Ben Vrackie and Shiehallion.

The area centers on the Valleys through which the A9 goes, this includes the Rivers Tay and Garry. It's a fertile valley and is highly cultivated for arable, forestry and livestock usage. It's also popular for fishing.
Although the hills are quite rounded, they have some great colours in the autumn and winter. And some of the sharper hills such as Beinn a' Ghlo and Ben Vrackie have excellent viewpoints. Indeed someone said that Ben Vrakie has the finest view in Scotland.
Forests feature heavily in the lower landscape and contribute to some famous scnery. The Queen's view at Loch Tummel is one such place. Overall, no spectacular corries or ridges for the "adrenalin junkies" but plenty else - including lots of cross country skiing potential.
