Introduction
This area is less than one hour drive from Glasgow and is thus one of the busiest mountain areas in Scotland with it being as busy as the Lake District and Snowdonia. At night the sky over Glasgow is seen to glow a strong orange from here. In Britain the only other upland area to lie so close to large conurbations is the Peak District.
Despite it's location, solitude can still be sought, the Luss hills are quiet most of the time as the masses head for the high peaks. Even so, the likes of Ben Lomond and The Cobbler, two of the most famous peaks in the area are well worth climbing - solitude can still be found though this is generally mid-week.

Stob Coire Creagach
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs is the first national park in Scotland. Not only does this place have mountains but some of the finest lowland mix of forest, meadow and loch. Only Beinn Ime manages to break the 1000m height but still, this provides the perfect introduction to the rest of the highlands.
